Background: 

Transportation Noise Control Center was established by Professors Karnopp and Sarigul-Klijn in 1996 under large funding from DOT. The goal of the center is to understand and suggest solutions for noise and vibration problems associated with transportation systems.

Current research is primarily concerned with the generation, transmission, reception and effects of transportation noise from road vehicles to space launch vehicles. Recent and proposed projects include a study of possible adverse effects of noise on endangered wildlife species , a characterization of noise and vibration generation mechanisms of vehicles and improved computer models for noise and vibration transmission including advanced mitigation techniques such as design of vibration isolation systems.
